For those of us who live in Ontario, we had our first snow this weekend! The GTA didn’t fare too badly for the first blast of winter, receiving less than one centimeter of snow over November 24-25. Yet, these images demonstrate the incredible amount of road salt on the ground!
Many local residents woke up on Monday, thinking that it had snowed, but the white dusting on the ground was hard, harsh salt; not soft, fluffy snow!
Next time it rains, all this road salt will enter Lake Ontario, from where all of the GTA draws all of its fresh drinking water. Next time you take a drink from your tap, ask yourself how much road salt is there.
Choose alternatives to salt and save our water!
